I Hate Housework!

There, I admit it out in public. It is one of those things that almost seems futile at times. It all began after I had kids. Up until then, when it was only the 2 of us, and I could stay on top of things. We had our two kids about 3 years apart. Just as I got into a good housework routine while taking care of one, along came the second one! The routine has been constantly changing, and I’ve just grown to hate housework!

My friend Val, at MomChats.com, just launched, a free eCourse she has appropriately named “I HATE Housework“. She describes it as a “free 35-day ecourse to get you through the necessary evil of cleaning”. A woman after my own heart, who thinks like I do – no wonder we are friends!

Now that both kids are in a daily routine I’ve got more time to get myself into a steady housework routine, which will include better delegating! Each is old enough for their own chores, as well as being more responsible for cleaning and keeping up after themselves.

I signed up last night, and plan to get started on Monday, as she’s got it set up that way. This way I can get a head start, and psych myself into it. Besides, the upside is, if I follow Val’s 35-day housework routine, I’ll have the house ready just in time for the family birthday party in March! I’ll be charting my progress here, and at MomChats.com.

You can signup too! I’d love to have others keep me company – we can support each other!

I’m so excited to be a stop on the MomChats Blog Tour! Val has got an incredible line up of Mom blogs she’s visiting this month, and am pleased to have had her stop here. P.S. Val is a good friend of mine, and she herself is one busy momma!

Manage Your Time and Enjoy Life More

As Moms we know that there are a million things each day, week and month that must get done. But you need to get some fun in the mix as well. Use some good time management tips and enjoy the family you are taking such good care of.

Write out your to do lists for the week, this a biggy. Make a very detailed to do list and write it out for each day of the week. I also add in things like which day to clean the bathroom or change the sheets.

Keep all appointments for the family on one calendar. If you have the ability, also set them up on your phone. Having them all in one spot will make it easier to schedule other things for similar times and get errands done at once.

Plan your meals. Don’t waste time each day trying to think of what’s for dinner. Make a plan and stick to it. Make as many of the meals ahead of time as you can.

Schedule your work time. Let the family know that this is a time you MUST work. When you can schedule it will depend a lot on the age of your family members and how much supervision they need. Scheduled work time needs to be uninterrupted. So if you have to get up an hour or two early or stay up after the kids go to bed, make sure and get that uninterrupted time a couple of days a week.

Carpool with other parents and use that extra time to work or get house cleaning done.

Don’t sit at the kids practice and do nothing. Take a notebook or laptop and get work completed. This may be the only uninterrupted time you can grab during the week to work. Have other kids bring their homework and get it done while waiting.

Making the most of your hours will leave you more relaxed and feeling less chaotic by the end of the day. Working smarter, not harder goes for all aspects of life, not just business. Condense activities as much as possible during the week and enjoy your weekend with the family making memories instead of always doing errands.

Keep Up With Your Home When You Work There Too

Working at home and keeping up with everything else around the house is a huge task. Sometimes it seems totally impossible as a mom to do the laundry, cook meals, take care of kids, and get your work done as well. However, there are some great WAHM time management tips that you can use to keep up with your home, even while you work.

Tip #1 – Look for Cooking Strategies - Cooking can take up a lot of time. Start looking for easy recipes, or make ahead meals to help you make the best use of your time. Look for recipes that include only a few ingredients and that only require about 30 minutes for you to prepare. You can cook healthy without having to spend huge amounts of time in the kitchen.

Tip #2 -Spend 15 Minutes Picking Up - Just take 15 minutes out of your day while the kids are gone to pick up through the house. Set a timer to pick up clutter, deal with a load of laundry, or clean up the kitchen. You can accomplish a lot in a small amount of time.

Tip #3 – Try to Find a Routine - Many Moms find that having a routine can be very helpful when they are trying to keep up with their home. Figure out days to do laundry, days for shopping, and days to clean other areas of the home. This way you know when you need to get something done.

Keeping your sanity as a work at home mom is a lot easier when you use time management. Of course, don’t allow yourself to get stressed out if you miss something. There is always tomorrow. Do your best to use these simple WAHM time management tips, and keeping up with your home will be a lot easier.
