Like many people, I want to declutter my household. It’s just that I look around and oftentimes feel completely overwhelmed by the process. But, I’ve learned that if you break it down into easy and manageable steps, you can make progress a little at a time.

Here are ten tips, that can take no more than one minute each, to help you declutter your home.

1. walk through a room in the house and pick up as many things as you can to throw out in 60-seconds
2. walk around the house and put everything that should go up, or downstairs on the stairway, and the next time you have a minute, move them up, or down to where they belong.
3. spend 60 seconds putting things away – maybe something from step 2, or whatever is out.
4. make your bed – seriously it only takes a minute!
5. sort your mail – toss the junk right away before it stacks up.
6. pay a bill – write a check, make a phone or online payment
7. clear off a table – be it the coffee table, or your main dining table
8. spend a minute putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher
9. wipe an annoying spot on the wall, or sticky spot on the floor (okay, I admit that’s more cleaning than it is decluttering)
10. make a list of 10 other things you could do in a minute

If you are serious about keeping each step to a minute – it might help to invest in a digital timer. Once you’ve done any of these a couple of times, you’ll have a better idea of what you can accomplish in a minute. You will see a small dent then eventually a larger one, and your decluttering progress will be made a little at a time.

One thing I have learned through my blog reading, and interactions online – every one has a different way to organize their coupons. While some keep them in a little coupon wallet, others have clipped and stored them in a binder. Even then, people differ in their coupon binder organization, depending on family needs, or just the way they feel the most organized when it comes to their coupon binder. There are some common threads though, items that almost every coupon binder has, but personal preference will always persist.

A good sturdy 3 ring binder. The size may depend on your coupon collection, but you want to make sure to get one big enough with room to grow. I recommend a 1-1/2 to 2 inch binder to begin with, unless you already have a huge coupon collection, then you may want to invest in a 3″ binder.

Tabbed dividers. – A big part of coupon binder organization is how you are going to categorize your coupons. Having tabbed dividers with category headings makes is easier to thumb through to what you’re looking for. It’s important to have the right tabbed dividers that are wide enough to see the tabs beyond the coupon pages. Then your category headings are up to you. ;)

Coupon pocket pages. Most often you see plastic baseball card holder pages used in coupon binders. These are also called 9-pocket pages. The great thing is even here you can customize your coupon binder to your personal preference. I found 3, 4, and 6-pocket pages at CouponClutch.com which I personally prefer for easier access and storage of my coupons.

Storage for supplies. The coupons will store in the pocket pages, but you may also want to have a place to store supplies, like a small calculator or pair of scissors. You can buy pencil pouches that fit into a 3 ring binder, or you may want to have a pocket or two for this purpose.

Functional, yet fashionable. Another trick to coupon binder organization is keeping it that way. You want the best order of the tabs, and the right coupon pages, but you also want something that will be easy to handle and transport. Having a handled coupon binder tote like the Coupon Clutch, you have a way to carry around your coupon binder without anything falling out, in a fashionable binder tote cover.

So, whether you are just starting out, or already have a coupon binder, organization is key to finding the coupons you need when you need them. Putting all of the right parts together in a portable binder keeps everything together in one place. Only you know what will work for your coupon binder organization, but following these common guidelines will help you get your coupons organized and stay that way.

Do you have a pantry, or cabinets you use to store your dry goods and non-perishables? It may seem like a personal question, but…What’s in your pantry inventory?

I’ve spent the last few weeks stockpiling my family’s personal care items, but it’s time to turn my attention to our pantry, fridge & freezer and finding ways to “cook out the stockpile” during the slim pay periods.

Having the basic essentials on hand can make meal planning, even spontaneous cookie making, a lot easier. The thing is, each of us has preferences, and my essentials might not be yours. Below is a basic Pantry inventory, plus I’ve added a list for the fridge and freezer. Continue reading »
